Syntopix is a spin out company from the University of Leeds set up in 2004 to commercialise the expertise of husband and wife team Drs Jon Cove and Anne Eady. Both founders are leading members of the Skin Research Centre at the University of Leeds. Syntopix successfully floated on AIM in March 2006.
Syntopix is discovering and developing new topical therapeutics for the treatment of skin diseases, particularly acne and MRSA infections based on a re-profiling strategy whereby it screens for previously untested combinations of known compounds with a history of human use that are effective in these indications. This strategy aims to reduce the risks and costs associated with drug discovery and development. In August 2007, Syntopix reported results of its first Phase I trial which confirmed the safety and tolerability of a combination of three test treatments.
WRTSF has been supporting Syntopix since 2004.
