Aberdeen Asset Management has appointed Dr David Milroy to manage the White Rose Technology Seedcorn Fund (WRTSF), an early stage seedcorn fund which invests in new technology emerging from the universities of York, Leeds and Sheffield.
David will act on behalf of Aberdeen Asset Management, working with Universities, spinout companies and the WRTSF board, to ensure that investments are made to the benefit of companies and investors and to support advancement of technology in the region.
David joins the WRTSF from ITI Life Sciences, a state supported innovation fund, where he was responsible for identifying funding opportunities and crafting them into significant collaborative research and development programmes. David previously spent a number of years with leading international consultancy firm, Wood Mackenzie, where he advised clients on their corporate and licensing strategies as well as performing due diligence projects on companies, products and technologies. David started his career working as a scientist with GlaxoSmithKline and as a clinical pharmacist at Guy's/St Thomas' hospitals, London.
David has a First Class Honours degree in Pharmacy, a PhD from the University of Bath and a MBA with distinction from Edinburgh University.
Says David, “I have a long standing interest in the commercialisation of cutting-edge science and in initiatives that tackle the so-called funding gap. The WRTSF provides the ideal opportunity for me to draw upon my industrial experience and pursue this interest. I am very much looking forward to supporting the development of the emerging technology companies within the White Rose portfolio and to identifying new opportunities for funding.”
Says Joe Wiley of Aberdeen Asset Management, “We are delighted to have David on board as fund manager for the White Rose Technology Seedcorn Fund. David's experience stands him in a strong position when offering funding guidance and in identifying spinout companies which are ripe for investment. We are looking forward to seeing the Fund develop with David on board.”
